Tuesday, September 29th was a tragic day for two young sister Chihuahuas named Minnie and Daphne. As reported in the OC register, both dogs were stolen in the night from their run at the San Clemente Animal Shelter; thieves used tools to destroy the padlocks. Daphne was found dead, apparently hit by a car the next morning. Minnie was found by two women, running loose, near an apartment complex later the next day. Investigation by the sheriff’s department has not resulted in any convictions to date.
The shelter staff did not want Minnie to return to the shelter for fear of her safety and contacted Paws Pet Resorts in San Clemente. When Minnie arrived at Paws, she was visibly shaken. A lot of love, and rest and Minnie gradually started to brush off her horrible ordeal and trust again. We introduced Minnie to our small dog playgroup and she began to heal. Missing her sister, she began making friends with our regular day camp dogs. Over the next couple weeks, Minnie became more and more herself; sweet, loving, trusting, and playful.
Minnie’s dream of a loving family has now come true.. She has been adopted to a local family who fell in love instantly. It was meant to be. Her new family takes her everywhere and she loves riding in the car. She loves to snuggle at night and sleeps with her new parents in their bed. She even went camping last week in their RV. The whole family is having a blast. Happy ever after for Minnie!

Hannah’s father , Mike, is a marine who waited for his deployment days to be over before getting a dog only to find out a year later that his country needed him to deploy again. Without family to care for his one year old shepherd mix Hannah, he started the daunting task of finding a home. Nothing was good enough for his girl and he was heartbroken at the thought of having to leave her. Not having a choice, we all sat in my front lobby and cried and Mike put Hannah in our care. I promised him, that Hannah would reside at Paws until the perfect family was found. This was actually the second time Hannah was without a home.
Mike rescued Hannah as a puppy. She had been hit by a car before she reached 9 weeks of age. Without the necessary funds the owners brought her to a local shelter where Mike found her, and paid for the expensive and risky surgery to reconstruct part of her skull. He nursed her back to health and loved her dearly. Hannah is a very luck girl as she will always be missed Mike, but she has found love again.
Three months later, we found the perfect match for Hannah. She resides with a local family, has a new big brother (a sweet golden retriever) named Cabo. Hannah's new Mom is so pleased with the new addition to her family and hopes that when Mike returns he can be a part of Hannah’s life again. Hannah comes bounding into Paws for her doggie daycamp playdates, with a big grin . She found love again… she is one of the lucky ones.

We love her so much and she has brought us so much joy - thank you for making that possible."
